The Comtesse Du Barry, the Mistress of King Louis XV of France, was renowned for her extraordinary beauty. The Guillotine brought an abrupt ending to her life – be careful not to lose your head over this delicious concoction.

Ingredient:

4-6 cracked ice cubes

Dash of Pernod

Dash of Angostura bitters

2 measures gin

1 measure dry vermouth

Lemon peel twist, to decorate.

Method:

  1. Put the ice cubes into the mixing glass and dash the Pernod and angostura bitters over them.
  2. Pour in the gin and vermouth and stir well to mix.
  3. Strain into a chilled cocktail or wine glass and decorate with a twist of lemon.
