Described in a cocktail book of the early 20th century as a drink that ‘definitely hits the spot’, there seems to be some confusion about the actual ingredients for this classic. All recipes include champagne, but disagree about the spirits included.
INGREDIENT:
4-6 cracked ice cubes
2 measures brandy
1 measure lemon juice
1 tbsp sugar syrup
Champagne, chilled
Twist of lemon peel, to decorate
METHOD:
1. Put the cracked ice cubes into a cocktail shaker.
2. Pour the brandy, lemon juice and sugar syrup over the ice and shake vigorously until a frost forms.
3. Strain into a chilled highball glass and top up with champagne. Decorate with the lemon twist.
